Clear prices. You approve the number before I start.

Shops around here commonly post $130–$160/hr, and you still have to get the car there. My posted rate is lower because I do not carry a building or a service writer. You still get a written estimate, itemized parts, and the customer-rights paperwork Washington requires.

Most jobs are quoted as a package (parts + labor + trip + tax). Washington sales tax applies to parts and labor.

Common job starting points

These are starting ranges for a typical passenger car or light truck. Your estimate will use your exact parts and the condition of the vehicle.

JobTypical out-the-door range
Battery test, replace, and register if needed$180–$320
Front pads and rotors, one axle$320–$520
Starter or alternator, common vehicles$380–$650
Serpentine belt and tensioner$220–$380
Thermostat and coolant service$240–$420
Front hub / wheel bearing, one side$280–$480

How billing works

  • Repairs expected to cost more than $100 get a written estimate first, unless you waive it in writing.
  • I cannot go more than 10% over the approved estimate without your okay.
  • Parts are listed as new, rebuilt, or used.
  • Replaced parts are available if you ask before work starts.
  • Minimum ticket is $159 including the trip fee.
  • Parts orders over $200 need a 50% deposit before I buy them.
  • Payment is due when the job is finished.

Customer-supplied parts

I generally do not install parts you bought yourself. If I make an exception, there is no warranty on the part, and you still pay diagnosis plus full labor. Bad parts are how mobile jobs turn into two trips.

FAQ

Are you cheaper than a shop? On most common jobs the out-the-door number is lower. I will not bid to be the cheapest person in the county. Cheap work is expensive twice.

Do you take cards? Yes. Payment is due when the job is finished unless we agreed on a parts deposit.
